The Lighthouse Inn

The enclosed patio was a nice feature, and the outdoor pool looked clean, though we didn’t use it. Parking is limited, so it doesn’t seem suited to a group traveling in several cars unless they have multiple rooms. The place is definitely outdated, and it needs more regular maintenance. We stayed just one night, and I don’t plan to return. I know they may have been understaffed, since only one person was working at the hotel. We asked for an early check-in, which I understand can’t always be arranged, but it wasn’t possible. We arrived just before 3 p.m.; the woman said the room was ready and handled check-in. She was kind and knowledgeable, but our first room had a door that wouldn’t lock and a tub that clearly hadn’t been cleaned. She moved us quickly. I checked the lock in the next room and it was fine, but when I went to shower, that shower also hadn’t been cleaned. I cleaned it and the floor myself. The AC kept the room comfortable, though it had a lot of dust on it. The sheets seemed fresh, and were okay for one night. I’d wondered about this place for a while. Recent reviews said it was dated but clean, but that wasn’t our experience.

After a problem at another hotel, the owners came through for us. They felt bad about what we’d been through and really wanted our island visit to go well. They were wonderful, gave us great food suggestions and directions to pet-friendly places, which are limited on the island. They were also great with our dog. There’s a nice yard and a fenced dining area.

Chris, the innkeeper, welcomed us at check-in and gave us detailed suggestions for places to eat and things to see nearby. Since we were only in town for two days and wildlife preserve passes could only be bought for a week, he provided us with a pass. That was a lovely touch. Our room was clean, the bed very comfortable, and the little welcoming details were nice. I especially liked that it’s pet-friendly, with milk bones by the bottled water. I’ll choose the Lighthouse Inn next time I stay in the area.

The innkeepers were really friendly, knowledgeable, and flexible, and gave us great ideas for food and activities. My pup and I had a great stay. If you need a pet-friendly place on the island, check them out. You won’t be disappointed!
