We had nowhere else available, so we booked Super 8 by Wyndham in Chipley, FL late at night and checked in around 3:00 AM. The door wouldn't shut unless my husband physically lifted it, and it took us nearly 10 minutes to work out how to secure it. That felt especially unsafe at that hour. We also found two large insects in the room. At 10:45 AM, staff banged aggressively on the door and said it was checkout time. We explained we'd only arrived a few hours earlier and asked them to calm down. They said they “push reminders” before the 11:00 AM checkout, which was disruptive and unnecessary. As we got ready to leave, we found the toilet wouldn't flush at all, so we had to leave the property immediately. We politely told the staff, family members cleaning the property, about the problems as we left. They were dismissive and insulting instead of addressing them. They blamed the toilet on our using “too much toilet paper,” said broken lights were “not needed,” claimed we must have brought in the insects from outside, and said we should be thankful they “allowed” us to check out at 11:30 AM. Their abusive and disrespectful behavior escalated the conversation. They asked us to leave and called the police. The police listened to both sides, then advised us to contact Wyndham directly and leave because the situation was clearly unprofessional and unproductive. This was one of the worst hotel stays I've had. Between the unsafe room, broken amenities, and hostile staff, I strongly don't recommend this location.

The towels were clean and the hot water lasted, and the man who checked us in was genuinely nice. But the room was a shock after such a welcoming arrival. There was hair from previous guests between the sheets and on the pillowcases, and the floor was dirty, with snack crackers and wrappers left beside one bed. We got into town at 1 a.m., tired and facing an early morning, with no other short-notice options nearby. I washed the sheets in the guest laundry so my son and I could sleep. The advertised free breakfast was packaged honey buns and expired OJ.

I stayed one night, and it was so unsafe and disturbing that I'm reconsidering staying with Wyndham. The front desk smelled strongly of curry. In the room, the lights didn't work, the toilet wouldn't flush, the door wouldn't lock, and there was a cricket or insect inside. At 10:40 a.m., someone knocked aggressively, as if there were an emergency. When we raised the problems, the housekeeper was rude and dismissive. She said we didn't know how to turn on the light, blamed the toilet on too much tissue, and denied there were insects. I showed her a video, then she changed her story and said it wasn't from their property, though it clearly was. Her son kept being rude too, and neither would take responsibility or apologize, so I stopped engaging. Then the so-called manager arrived. When I said I didn't want to deal with that behavior, he swore at me and moved toward me aggressively, as if he might hit me. I began recording, and his son had to pull him back physically. You can clearly see it in the video. The property seems to be family-run, but the behavior was extremely unprofessional and showed no hospitality standards. I don't understand how Wyndham lets it operate under its brand. No guest should be threatened or verbally abused for raising legitimate concerns. I've reported this to Wyndham and hope they take serious action, including reconsidering the property's franchise status.

Breakfast was a honey bun with orange juice, apple juice, or coffee, which wasn't too bad, and the staff were excellent. The rooms were another story. There was pee on the toilet, hair in the tub, old soap in the bathroom, a roach on the wall, dirty spills on the floor, and old drink spills on the desk. I wiped things down, sprayed disinfectant on the beds, bought a sheet and pillow, and made do. I wouldn't recommend staying unless you can't afford anything else. Everything was good except the rooms.

The price and room sizes were decent, and the rooms were very clean. The beds were comfortable, and the microwave and mini fridge came in handy.
