Holiday Inn Express & Suites Cumberland - La Vale by IHG

The location worked well, with a great restaurant next door. But when we turned down the bed, we found crumbs and stains in the sheets, so they clearly hadn't been changed before we arrived. The front desk apologized and moved us to another room right away. It was still a bummer because we'd just put our baby down to sleep.

The room was extremely hot when we got there and took forever to cool off. It's an older hotel that's been remodeled and upgraded. Breakfast was a little short of what I'd expect by IHG standards, but the location was good.

The breakfast bar was the best part. The man working there was warm and friendly, and chatted with me like family. The location was convenient for getting on and off the interstate, and the neighborhood felt relatively safe, which matters a lot to me. The room, though, was dated and worn, with brown decor everywhere. I might have mistaken it for a Quality Inn if I hadn't known it was a Holiday Inn. The front desk wasn't very welcoming, but it was late and I was tired, so that didn't bother me much. They put me right by the elevator, which was disappointing when there seemed to be plenty of empty parking spaces. I think hotels should avoid assigning rooms by elevators and exit doors unless they're full. Most of all, I felt unsafe because the door lock was broken and there was a 1-1.5" gap under the door. I moved the ironing board and desk chair in front of it to feel safer. The gap and lock are visible in my attached pictures.
