Historic Shep's Miners Inn near Kingman

The breakfast at the restaurant was some of the best we’ve had on the road, though it closes at 5, so Kingmen is the closest major town for food if you arrive later. We stayed overnight for a West Rim day trip. The rooms are simple, but they fit the character of this historic town. We got delayed and arrived later than expected, but they were waiting for us. After we got caught in a monsoon on the rim, they kindly let us use the W/D. It’s a really cool, unique place, and we’ll come back when we’re in the area.

Nice little motel, just plan around the restaurant. It’s the only one in town and part of the hotel, but despite what the website says, it’s only open Fri/Sat/Sun. We drove about 20 miles to Oysters Mexican and Seafood instead, and the trip was worth it.

We haven’t stayed at the hotel yet, but we always try to stop for a meal when we can. Breakfast was good, and it’s a quiet spot in Chloride, AZ. We asked for a tour and learned that the cast of Rebel Rousers stayed here while filming. There’s plenty to fill a day nearby: a mock ghost town, rock murals, antiques, a general store, and lots of history. It’s worth visiting, and I know we’ll stay next time we’re in town.

The owner checked us in and was polite and hilarious. The rooms are always clean, and I never wake up with that icky hotel feeling here. This is a small, slightly dated inn in the nicest way, right in a historic little town. It started out as a stagecoach repair building, and they’re updating parts of it to feel more homey and modern. There’s a lot to see in the area, but watch where you wander off the paths: this used to be a major mining town, and old mines are still around.
