Best Western Valdez Harbor Inn

The only thing this hotel has going for it is the lovely waterfront setting. Inside, the whole building felt dingy, the rooms were very dated, and the bathroom was so rusty I couldn't bring myself to shower. The polished photos on this and other booking sites gave me the wrong impression. I paid $280 for one night when the hotel wasn't even full, and honestly wish I'd slept in my car.

The complimentary breakfast was great, and the evening staff were really helpful when we needed a replacement remote and had a few other requests. In the morning, though, staff were watching videos on their phones at an absurd volume. The vulgar language carried through the lobby. It was easy enough to ignore, but felt pretty unprofessional. They just needed to turn the volume down.

The room smelled bad, was uncomfortable, and had so much noise that I couldn't sleep. This place felt chaotic and poorly managed, and wasn't worth my money. I contacted corporate before my stay and learned it was an independently owned franchise, so they couldn't help. The restaurant was just as bad. The manager seemed inexperienced and unqualified to deal with complaints, and was rude. The food and service were unacceptable, with no accountability. At the front desk, the woman was nasty, dismissive, and told me my complaints were “literally not her problem.” The night clerk was polite, but didn't help. When I asked for a manager, I was told nobody was available. This was one of the worst hotel experiences I've had. I'd rather freeze in my car than spend money here again. I'll never stay at this Best Western again. Go anywhere else.

Quiet, clean, and a nice place to rest. The room was a typical size and there were no complaints, though the vending machine was out of stock, which makes me think this place must be popular.
