Western Skies Motel

It’s dated, though they’re making improvements, and the place is kept clean. The location just off the highway is great, and the rooms and beds are clean. I’d come back if I needed to. I’m just looking to rent a clean room, not buy the place. Job well done.

The motel gave my room to someone else even though I’d confirmed it days earlier and arrived at 8:45p. My confirmation said payment would be processed at the hotel and to call if I’d be arriving late. It listed check-in as 3pm-12am, so I was within that window. The other person had messaged that day for an arrival between 9pm-10pm. At first I was told they’d accidentally overbooked and had called to check whether I was still coming. Later, the explanation changed to a message. Since I was driving, I checked my email and found only a generic message with no hotel name and no question about whether I was still coming. That’s a poor messaging system, and a phone call would have been more direct for a customer on the road. They gave the impression there were no rooms left, though one actually was available. That felt extremely unethical. The person who was second in line, with no confirmed booking and not there in person, should have been the one told there was no room. It seemed management wanted to secure that night’s revenue because they feared a confirmed guest might not show. The policy should explicitly say what counts as late. With a 3pm-12am arrival window, I was on time. To me, late means after 12am. Charge customers when they first confirm, so payment is secured and this kind of situation can be avoided. Contact people by phone, not email, while they’re driving. And be honest and stick to the facts. If a mistake happens, apologize, own it, don’t blame the system, tell the truth, and make it right. Management should have taken back what they told the other person.

The room was unbearably hot because the AC barely worked, and there was loud road noise all night along with someone blaring music all evening. The front desk person was rude, going on about the prices and the nonexistent things to do or places to eat around town. The bed was alright and the bathroom had been updated, but the shower had paint and dust all over its bottom. The light-up mirror didn’t work, and the water pressure was terrible. It was alright, but not the best.

This independently owned place is run by very kind owners. My room was clean, well cared for, and nice, with a fridge and microwave. I’d recommend it to any traveler.
