Residence Inn by Marriott Decatur Emory Area

The hotel’s location near my parents’ home was a real plus, but the price was much too high for how poorly the hotel and room were cleaned. There was hair in the shower and on the bathroom floor. No one was at the front desk. Breakfast was poor too, with weak coffee and a nasty, sticky setup. Management needs to improve cleanliness and customer service. This fell far short of what I expect from the Marriott brand.

The staff made our weeklong stay feel comfortable and convenient. Everyone was friendly and took the initiative to help. Laurie especially was amazing. She was empathetic, greeted us with a smile, and went out of her way for us. We were there with my elderly mom and elderly aunts and uncles to attend my uncle’s funeral. Thank you, Laurie. The location was handy too, with a CVS a two-minute walk away and a Whole Foods within five minutes. Our room was spacious, new, and in good condition, and the kitchenette was a big help for a longer visit. Breakfast each day was another plus. The selection was a little limited: scrambled eggs with sausages and one other carb dish, plus oats or porridge. But it worked fine for my week there. I liked adding the salsa to my eggs. They also had cereal, yogurt, usually bananas and apples, a toaster with bagels and toast, the usual juices, and plenty of coffee.

Within ten minutes of sitting down after I arrived, the woman spoke to me rudely and aggressively and threatened to call the police. I felt I was treated unfairly and unprofessionally. It was horrible, and this location’s behavior should be addressed. She should be terminated. I realized that black people in customer service treat other black people with so much disrespect while giving other nationalities the utmost respect. Horrible location.

My stay was awful. The front desk woman was unwelcoming and spoke in a very nonchalant way. Breakfast was horrible and very low quality, and the employee had a nasty attitude. Housekeeping and management were inadequate too.
