Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndham Clarksville

After a long day driving, we got in late last night. The front desk attendant was kind and attentive, the beds were really comfortable, and checking out was quick and easy.

The room itself was clean, though a few bulbs were out and the USB port in the bedside lamp didn’t work. The location is handy for my work trips, but I won’t book here again after the way I was treated at check-in. Traveling alone, I asked for a second-floor room because I feel safer above ground level. The man at the desk told me I’d be safe and that he’d protect me, which felt patronizing. I repeated that I still wanted the second floor, and he said he’d check, then claimed it was full and only four first-floor rooms were left. I checked in around 6 p.m., when it was already dark enough for room lights, then went back out to park and saw that not a single light was on upstairs. It made me doubt his explanation.

I usually don't leave bad reviews, but I hope my crew doesn't have to stay here again. We leave an hour before breakfast officially starts, and the food was already out, but we weren't allowed to take any. The front desk man was kind of rude when he explained that. Also, the maid moved my belongings around while cleaning my room. I'm pretty sure she shouldn't be doing that.

There’s plenty of room, and the location is convenient, with restaurants nearby and the interstate not far away. The photos didn’t match very well, though. The laminate flooring was two different colors, split about halfway across the room, and at first I couldn’t get the lights on, then they were blindingly bright. The bathroom switches are nearer the mirror while the tissues are by the door, so I had to use my phone light to find the switch. The faucet wouldn’t give us cold water, just room-temperature at best. There’s a larger dorm-style fridge and a small microwave, and breakfast is offered, though it didn’t look like there’d be many choices. The desk clerk gave me little information. There’s no elevator, and they put a $60 hold on your card. Debit is accepted, but I was told it can take longer for the hold to come off.
