Quality Inn Exit 4

I’ve stayed in hundreds of hotels around the world, and this was the worst experience I’ve had. The restaurant service was unbelievably bad: I waited nearly two hours for food, then got the completely wrong dish. I was so hungry and irritated that I ate it anyway. There was no Wi-Fi or TV, and everything else seemed out of order or closed. Our room was upstairs, a long walk outside in the cold and as far from the lobby as possible. I wouldn’t mind that as much in summer, but it’s hard to imagine an older guest hauling luggage all that way. The place was disappointing in every respect.

The front desk woman was nice, and the main building has the check-in desk, pools, breakfast bar, and tables. But our outside, patio-style room was hard to locate, and we had to carry our suitcases up stairs. The rooms were very basic and just okay. The bathtub corners could have been scrubbed better, there were bits of hair there. The advertised hot tub was closed for maintenance.

Parking was easy, right outside our room, and the property even provides dog waste bags. Our room was spacious and very clean, with comfortable beds and lots of TV channels, including several HBO options. The hotel is older, but the updates are tasteful and the whole place is remarkably clean. I travel pretty often, and this is one of the cleanest hotels I’ve stayed in lately. We were there on the first night of a drive from FL to CO, and the staff made the stop comfortable and worry free. Everyone was friendly and did what they could to help. Breakfast was better than a typical free hotel spread, with service provided, so be sure to tip. There’s also a bar and restaurant on site with good food, drinks, and service. Sparkle was delightful. It was exactly what we needed for a road trip stop, and we’ll come back when we head West again. Highly recommend it for an overnight stay or a visit to the area.

Things eventually worked out, but the way one staff member handled this really soured the visit. After we left the pool for pizza and cake, I called the desk about an hour later and the man said our other friends could swim too. It was one friend and her child, neither of them on the room, and we ended up going back to the pool. I’d called a month earlier to ask about a small birthday gathering for my six-year-old, with a couple of her friends swimming. I was told that was fine as long as it wasn’t a large group. At the hotel, my husband, a friend, and I were in the big pool while our daughter and her friend used the kids’ pool. Then a woman who worked there came over rudely and said someone had arrived with a “flyer” for the party. It was actually my 65-year-old friend, holding the invitation and asking for help finding us. We were called liars and told nobody would have said a small gathering was allowed. The gentleman who’d told me it was okay was right there, but wouldn’t admit it in front of his boss. We were told only registered room guests could use the pool, which seemed absurd to me. I’ve always known people to swim at a friend’s hotel pool when visiting. I suggest the staff get on the same page so this doesn’t happen again.
