Best Western Kokopelli Lodge

We were pleasantly surprised to find such nice lodging in a small town in NE New Mexico, and were generally pleased with the Best Western Kokopelli Lodge in Clayton, New Mexico. Breakfast was good, with fresh oranges, and the quaint dining area had two hostesses keeping an eye on the hot food and checking that everyone was satisfied. The rooms were clean, beds comfortable, facilities well kept, and there was plenty of bathroom counter space. There’s a fitness center but no pool. The Wi-Fi was very difficult to connect to, so we took off one star for service. I’m still puzzled by Best Western pricing, since I paid the same at a rural Kansas location that had an indoor pool.

It was quiet despite being right next to the road, and the rooms were clean with proper bath towels, not handkerchiefs. Breakfast was great. Our king bed had a worn-in dip where too many people must have slept in the same spot, so they may want to check the mattresses. Still, I’d stay again and recommend it.

We only meant to stop for a rest, but this cute little hotel won us over. Frankie, the night clerk, was a gem, and it felt like fate since our car is named Frankie too. The Southwest decor is sassy and full of personality. In the morning, two lovely ladies made a homemade breakfast with real NM-style green chili that had just the right kick. Cozy and full of character, a total win.

The road was closed and we got stranded, so I was lucky this was the first place I pulled into. The room was nice and clean, and the gentleman at the front desk was friendly and helpful. The included breakfast was probably the best I’ve ever had, with pretty much every breakfast food you could ask for. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again.
