They have directv, and the people are nice. Checkout is an unusual 10 am, but when I asked politely they let me stay later. The room smelled fresh instead of having the musty odor you might expect from an older motel. It was clean, cute, and cozy, with a vintage rocking recliner and a toasty gas heater. My bed and pillows were comfortable too. I’d definitely stay again. Enjoyed my visit, they run a nice motel!

The manager was friendly and helpful, and the bed was better than some we’ve had at pricier places. It was worn out, though, with a thick topper added over it. The room looked old and shabby, and the advertised Wi-Fi wasn’t available. The window AC wasn’t strong enough for the room, but it did eventually cool things down overnight. My husband had to kill five moths and four other flying bugs, and there were stains on the carpet. The reviews I’d read ranged from great to awful.

For a budget traveler, this little place worked out perfectly. I stopped unexpectedly in Clayton, New Mexico, and spent three days there. The owner was incredibly pleasant and accommodating, the beds were large and clean, and there were no bugs. Rooms are decently sized and have microwaves and coffee makers, plus TVs if that’s your thing. Toiletries and towels were in the bathroom. It’s less than a minute from the highway through town, a four-block walk to a delightful local coffee shop, and a 25 minute drive from Clayton Lake State Park. The price was very reasonable, and I couldn’t have been happier with this unexpected gem.

The first night, my family and our two pups were attacked by bed bugs. We had to throw away all the clothes we packed and all our dogs belongings. The management was horrible and refused to refund the room or pet deposit until I threatened a law suit. The lady manager on duty pockets the pet deposit to buy her personal items, future guests. She was very rude and upset about having to return mine. I’d recommend the Quality Inn down the road, which was 1000% better. Clayton motel needs to be shut down for bed bugs.

We called just 30 minutes ahead, but they’d sold our room and said we should’ve reserved it. There were empty rooms with random doors standing open, and the rooms looked disgusting. The managerial staff acted unprofessionally. If you can, spend the extra 20-30 bucks for a decent room with real amenities and professional service. We found a Quality Inn about five minutes away, and the difference was night and day.
