AC Hotel Clearwater Beach

We stayed at the AC Hotel in Clearwater for three nights. The rooftop area was a nice feature, and check-in was easy. The valet attendants were friendly and helpful whenever we came or went, though parking through them costs $38 a day. Our room had a pleasant partial view of the ocean and bay, but the beds were very uncomfortable and the shapeless pillows made it hard to sleep. During the whole stay, housekeeping came only once, which was disappointing. Some of the negative Google reviews made me hesitate before booking. I wouldn't say the hotel was as bad as those reviews suggested, but it didn't impress me either. It was okay, nothing special, and I think there are probably better places nearby. I don't think I'd stay again.

The friendly staff were the one bright spot. The spinning promotional wheel at the front desk should've been our clue to run. The hotel feels like corporate greed dressed up as “luxury.” At $450-$500 a night, this place is nowhere near worth it. The rooms are tiny, and the floors were dirty, with dust on the walls and bugs and dirt in the corners. The doors felt cheaply made; the sliding balcony door was falling apart, its screen was broken, and the lining was peeling. The so-called balcony was barely 2 by 4 feet, hardly usable. Valet is mandatory at $39 a day, even though you can self-park across the street for $10. Breakfast costs $20 and was laughable, basically a croissant and cold bacon. We skipped it, thankfully, and ate at Ocean Hai at Wyndham Grand Clearwater Beach instead. Their all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet on the beach came with unlimited drinks and was much better value and quality. The gym is on the top floor, so at 6 a.m. you can hear weights dropping when some finance bro starts working out. There were burned-out bulbs around the property and even wires hanging down. It's overpriced, poorly maintained, and nowhere near the luxury it claims to offer. I wouldn't stay again or recommend it.

The location is central, so we could walk everywhere, and the rooms were plain but clean. The beds were visibly sunken and painfully uncomfortable. We woke up hurting every day. There was no room service, which sucked. We ate breakfast downstairs once. It was okay, but not worth $20. The woman taking orders didn't want to clean the tables, and not one was clean. Who wants to sit in someone else's mess? Parking at $38 per day is ridiculous, and the shower head kept leaking even when turned all the way off.

The valet guys were awesome, but the rest of the visit wasn't good. The hotel didn't look as nice as it seemed, and service was mediocre. Rooms were okay but a little dirty, with a stained comforter and missed dirt in the corners and other spots that looked like they hadn't been cleaned properly more than once. The bar had no margarita mix during a margarita special. Breakfast was like what you'd get at a Holiday Inn Express, but they wanted $20 a plate, so we passed. There's a pool but no hot tub. Overall, not a good visit.
