We travel a lot and have never been treated this way. We paid almost $2,000 for two nights in the terrace suite. That trip was also a chance to get away from the place where I lost my dad after his eight-month battle with lung cancer, so this was especially upsetting. On our first night, my partner and I, both 40-year-old parents on vacation without our children, walked around a little, then had a drink and smoked a pre-rolled, totally legal THC-A product we'd found at a small shop along the walk on the rooftop terrace. The next morning, after breakfast room service, we went out walking. Less than an hour later, the hotel called saying they smelled marijuana and had entered our room with security while we were gone. They said they saw drug paraphernalia, which was the pre-roll butt and a lighter on the outside terrace. Nothing had been smoked that morning. They searched my bags. My purse was open on the bed. They pretty much labeled us “druggies.” I'm disappointed and felt profiled as an interracial couple. We're successful and intelligent, but the hotel made me feel otherwise. If they feel a search is needed, I suggest they have the person renting the room present. I feel completely violated.

We enjoyed our week here. The pool bar was great, and Shor restaurant and bar was good. Our room was large, with a full-size fridge, microwave, and deck. Pool bathrooms could use some attention. The location is good, though there’s a road between the hotel and the beach rentals that's easy to cross. Parking is available for a fee in the on-site multistory garage.

We had a great four-night stay with a toddler and his elderly grandparents. The beach was excellent, and the restaurant was great. You can rent cabanas right on the beach at an affordable price and charge them to your room. We also rented scooters for the older folks, who zipped off to the aquarium and several restaurants. The boardwalk was great, too. The staff had a great attitude and were responsive when we had a minor AC issue. You can tell they work to keep the hotel in good shape. The pool was a little chilly, but we'd happily come back.

Both rooms had kitchens, which let us make some meals to accommodate our dietary restrictions, though not every room has a full fridge and cooktop. The poolside suite was much better for us than the north-side room on level 8, which felt cold in the unseasonably cool weather. Staff were very accommodating about moving us. There are roomy places to sit in the public areas and lobbies. Beach towels are provided for the pool or beach, and half-price cabana and beach chair rentals were a nice perk.

The pullout couch wasn't ready at all: its sheets were dirty and there were no pillows. We also found that the master shower had no hot water after coming back from the beach. We called because we had dinner plans, waited more than an hour, and nobody came. We had to leave without showering after a full day at the beach. We'd splurged on one of the hotel's best rooms for a family trip, but less than eight hours into the stay it had already been a terrible experience. Getting to the fitness center from the 17th floor is inconvenient, too. You have to go down to the 16th, cross the hotel, then change elevators to reach the 7th floor. For the price and reputation, this has been extremely disappointing.
