Silver Sands Motel

Update: The owner has again responded to a negative review by saying I wasn’t a registered guest, as they have with other reviews. The photos are from room 6, and my stay began on 5/27. The reservation wasn’t under my name, but I was a valid guest, and my experience is real. I’m happy to confirm the last name on the registration and provide the receipt. The pictures from the room are real. I said the property was being treated for bugs, but please read the full review, since I believe what we saw points to an infestation. If the owner is open to feedback, they can contact me directly. I was recently at this property on a booking made by a friend. The insect problem was well beyond what I’d consider normal for Florida. When we arrived, there were several dead palmetto bugs on the kitchen floor. We cleaned them up, thinking perhaps the unit had been empty, but more kept appearing during our stay. It did look as if the property was being treated. Many bugs were dead, dying, or actively dying when we found them. Still, the number and frequency seemed like more than routine spraying could address. Even after cleaning, we found more in the kitchen, under the bed, and in the bathroom, and several more showed up the next day. The worst moment was seeing a live palmetto bug come out of the light switch, as shown in the photo. We also found another live one under a bag lid while getting ready to leave. This seemed like an ongoing problem in the unit, rather than an occasional insect, so we left before the stay was over. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen seemed well stocked, but we didn’t feel okay using many of the amenities because of the pests. I’m giving two stars because there were some good points, but the bugs seriously affected the stay and made us leave early. It seems like a bigger problem that may need more thorough mitigation than standard spraying. Photos are included for reference.
