Rodeway Inn Clearwater - Largo

The room was disgusting, with a roach crawling up the wall just moments after we arrived. The light switches malfunctioned, and everything felt gross. The men in charge came across as shady, creepy, and incredibly rude. I paid for the room online, then was told on arrival that there'd be a $25 deposit refunded at departure. When we left, they insisted I hadn't paid it, then admitted I had but said it wouldn't be refunded because we checked out two minutes late. This place is foul and not fit for people. Zero stars.

I have a very long list, so here's the short version. My reservation had been canceled because of when I arrived, which I accepted. I'd requested a smoking room but was given a non-smoking one. It smelled horrible, and though I didn't see signs of bed bugs when I checked the bed, I got covered in bites. The top comforter had burn holes, so I took a photo and showed the front desk. I wanted a replacement, but he said I could smoke in the room since people don't listen and he wouldn't charge me for smoking. Marijuana is my choice. He took me to the laundry room and told me to pick out a blanket. The one I chose had more burn stains, this time from an iron. I finally fell asleep, then at 7 a.m. found a dead giant roach when I went to the bathroom. At checkout I told the desk about it, and he said to bring it up with the manager on Monday. He also said my room cost a certain amount, which didn't match my bank statement. There was an extra $20 charge on top of the $20 hold, he told me. The place is next to diamond Dolls, a strip club. I was tempted to go in, but I was tired and needed to sleep. Never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever. I hope you see this, read my story, and look at the pictures I posted. Never go here.

The place was clean, and the room was about what you'd expect for the price. They accommodated my request for a ground floor room and had no issue with my service animal. Everything was drama free. The only noise came from construction across the street, which you could hear at 6:00 in the morning.

We ended up staying about two weeks because hotels were booked and our home was being worked on. We arrived just before hurricane Helene, desperate for a place. The room was large, as was the bathroom, but cigarette smoke hit us right away. Half the carpet was wet, the remote had no batteries, the decor was dated, the dresser and nightstands were chipped, and the mattress was stiff and old. After the hurricane, the power stayed off for the rest of our stay. The ground was slippery even when only slightly wet, and my husband fell on the stairs and hurt his leg. After the first week I paid for another week to get us through hurricane Milton. I had one paid night left when the man at the front desk pounded on our door and told my husband to leave immediately because we were “a day over due.” He told him to get up from the chair, but my husband pointed to his injured leg and said he couldn't. When I returned from the store, a cop was outside our door watching my husband try to pack. They wouldn't refund the prepaid night or my deposit. The power was out in the area so I couldn't work, and we were left on the streets while the staff's whole family stayed for free in rooms nearby. They showed no empathy, and I've heard countless people say they're just money hungry. The owner also puts his hands on his wife at the hotel. Staff were rude over time and accused us of having a dog because we didn't want room service. We preferred to clean the room ourselves because it felt so gross. There's a strong cigarette smell when you walk in. I'd spend a couple extra bucks and go to the place up the road. Unless you just need somewhere to sleep after a night at the strip club next door, I wouldn't recommend this place, even if you're homeless.
