Super 8 by Wyndham Clearwater/St. Petersburg Airport

Melissa at the front desk was sweet and very accommodating, and the staff were all great. The king room on the third floor for our first night was very nice. For the second night we got an older room that wasn’t as clean, with old carpet and broken lamps. At $60 a night as a Rewards member, it was about what you’d expect from a cheaper room.

We had to put down a $50 security deposit, and the elevator wasn’t working. The front desk put us on the third floor, saying it was the least infected floor. As soon as we entered, we saw two cockroaches. The front desk said the whole place was like that. We also saw one on a first-floor wall on our way out. I wouldn’t recommend it. It shouldn’t even be open to the public.

I was concerned when I first saw the place, but Desarae at the front desk quickly put me at ease. She was welcoming, friendly, and professional. The room and beds were nice and comfortable, and everything smelled clean. The bathroom was sparkling, one of the cleanest I’ve seen in all my many hotel and motel stays. Kudos to the cleaning crew, and to Desarae for helping tired, worried travelers with her warmth, humor, and smile. I recommend it based on my one-night stay. The place could use some freshening up, and they’re working on it. Despite the “breakfast included” claim, don’t expect breakfast. Fast food is within walking distance, along with other restaurants where you can sit down and relax.

Around 11 PM, as I was getting ready for bed, I spotted a baby roach in my cold tea by the nightstand and another crawling across the TV. I packed everything up, went downstairs, and got moved to another room around 12:30 AM. I’d been checked in after the front desk finished smoking and talking on their phones outside. In the morning, I expected an apology or partial credit for having to move at about 1 AM. They refused because I had stayed at the hotel. Apparently the manager thought I should have checked out at 12:30 and gone somewhere else, instead of expecting them to take responsibility. The manager should at least have apologized and offered a partial refund for the inconvenience. I’ll never stay here again on business. Don’t trust the automatic replies asking you to call a number. Nobody answers, and nothing gets done. They have my number and should contact customers after reports of roaches. I took video and pictures and will post them here if I can, or send them if they call.
