Dinner was a mess: the risotto came out cold and undercooked, and the French onion soup I’d asked about in advance arrived in a cold bowl, with no browned cheese and nothing like the crock I expected. The cheese was just melted into the soup, as if it had been microwaved. My husband’s steak wrap had big, very tough chunks instead of shaved steak, almost impossible to chew. We regretted asking for a window seat too, since the tracks were filthy and full of bugs. We’d driven out of our way while meeting with a realtor and had enjoyed our visits two years ago. This time, we found there were no laundry facilities, and our room was absolutely unacceptably unclean. It was late and they were busy, so we didn’t think asking the desk to move us would help. I’ll attach pictures of the problems. Maintenance in the rooms is seriously lacking, and management clearly isn’t keeping up with housekeeping training or following up. Between the building maintenance, staff training, and awful dinner, we will never come back.

The grounds are lovely, the location is great, and the restaurant staff gave amazing service at every meal we had there. The resort itself fell far short on customer service. My swimsuit disappeared from our room while it was in a plastic bag. I reported it right away, but the front desk said housekeeping had left for the day and told me to check the next morning. Nobody tried to help search for it then. When I checked back the next day, I was told the manager wasn’t there and usually came in later, but they couldn’t give me a time. I had to leave and called several times during the week without a response. Eventually the manager called and suggested it was my fault for putting the swimsuit in a plastic bag, speaking to me in a condescending, unprofessional way. The front desk staff were unfriendly and disengaged throughout the stay, often on their phones and barely acknowledging us. It was truly disappointing and nowhere near the service we expect.

We spent one night at Lakeside Lodge and were charged $863.16 three times. The manager said the charges would “fall off,” but they’re still there, and he still hasn’t returned my call. Now I have to dispute all three charges with my credit card company. This company took almost $1,000 from us, and the manager made no effort to put things right. We got in around 11 p.m. and the first room looked clean until I saw the mess inside the toilet. The second room’s toilet was worse, with mess still floating in it. We were wary of trying a third room, but did anyway. It wasn’t clean either, though I could use the bathroom, so at 1:30 a.m. we made do. We got through the night, checked out immediately, and went to Tru by Hilton, which was AWESOME! When we told the Lakeside Lodge manager how difficult the stay had been, he refused to deal with it, passed us to younger staff, lied, avoided our calls, and charged us more. Management doesn’t care about your stay and will steal your money. DISASTER!

The pool and restaurant are fun, and we’ve had a couple of good meals. The bar is a great place to watch games. It’s also clean and convenient, with nice staff. We stayed four nights, but the beds were never made. I still really like this complex, have been here several times, and will be back. It’s an easy place to stay when visiting Clemson U.

The rooms have good size and plenty of potential, but they’re gross. There were dust webs from ceiling corners down to the floor, the sink was nasty at check-in, dirty paper towels were left in the cabinets, and there was still trash in the bins. Some people in our group got rooms that hadn’t been cleaned, and nobody in our group of about 50 rooms has had housekeeping service in four days, despite asking repeatedly. I have an email from the hotel manager saying word for word that housekeeping won’t be able to clean any rooms. This place isn’t a “resort” in any way, and the management has run down a beautiful location with tons of potential. If you smoke, they send you to the far side of the parking lot. They also don’t allow outside alcoholic drinks, which they don’t tell you until check-in. Before booking, read a bunch of reviews and do your due diligence. Update: The owner says they’re working on the problems, but that’s total BS. The only thing they’ve done is replace the TV in my room, which wasn’t working at check-in. Quit lying. You guys suck and don’t care about making the business better!
