Super 8 West Plains

Great value for the price, and it's pet friendly. The beds were comfortable, the rooms clean, the staff amazing, and the showers super hot with good water pressure.

Reason #1: On arrival, their “tap to pay” reader failed twice for incidentals. They said they'd call when it was fixed, but instead I was locked out of my room and had to go to the front desk three times. On the third try my card was on hold from California, so I had to call to sort it out. While I was outside on the phone, the male Manager yelled at me for taking longer than “5 minutes” and announced to the parking lot that my card was “declined.” It was resolved two minutes later, with no apology. Reason #2: The room door key reader is broken or extremely temperamental. I've needed a new key eight times. When walking my dogs, I leave the door cracked and risk my belongings because I want to avoid constantly needing someone to let me in. The male manager said to keep it away from my phone or a credit card. I did, but still needed to be let in. Reason #3: I went to a local store for necessities and came back to a voicemail from the female owner, see attached, saying my dogs are no longer ESA animals. She started harassing me as soon as I entered the hotel. The Manager doesn't seem to understand that a Mental Health Professional determines whether animals are ESA, not whether they're left in a hotel room. They rarely bark, and if they do, it's just separation anxiety after my recent divorce. Reason #4: The Owners live at the hotel and watch your every move. They make you sign and initial an agreement but don't give you a copy. The male owner looked in my window while mowing the grass, and yelled at me in the parking lot while playing catch with his daughter. The female owner left a voicemail medically informing me that I no longer have ESA animals. I also keep hearing them speak another language outside my window and room door. Reason #5: See the attached photos. This place isn't worth the money. The card reader and room door entry don't work, the family living there will watch and harass you, the breakfast has half-cooked “biscuits” and watery gravy, and there are damages in rooms that aren't shown in the photos. They'll make you sign and initial an agreement without giving you a copy, and if you reserve in person like they insist, they'll take your money. DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL!

The people were rude. They tried to charge us twice, threatened us, and then kept our money when we wouldn't pay double the amount we were quoted and had already paid online. They said they'd keep the money and there was nothing we could do. We'll file disputes, but I strongly recommend never going to this location or its partner hotels.

Groceries, fast food, and pizza are all easy to reach on foot, and Dollar General and Family Dollar are close by too. It's a handy place to stop for one night or stay a week. Mike, the manager, and his wife are such sweet people. I always try to book here when I'm in West Plains. Love this place, and the Chinese place next door is top notch.
