Getting around was easy from this beautiful renovated historic home: it’s walkable to all of downtown Coeur d'Alene, with easy access to town parks, the marina, and the beach. The property has a big lawn and gazebo that looks ready for formal events. Inside there are several fireplaces, a pool table, and a downstairs media room with sauna and shuffleboard. Rooms have antique clawfoot tubs, most with showers. The accommodating staff made and served breakfast from the remodeled kitchen. Check-in and check-out are self-service by text, so make sure you’ve completed that before arriving. Thanks so much to Krystal for helping us enjoy this lovely property.

The staff were probably the high point. We didn’t have a bad stay by any means, and our few interactions with them were very pleasant. Still, this was an average stay at an above average price. Like the first impression of the house, it looks great at a distance, but up close it needs work. We were in Room 4, the North Travelers King Suite, and found its decor disappointing in both quality and taste, even though the hotel’s description had warned us. Little things added up: TV cables left visible, random mismatched hangers on wall hooks, and a ceiling vent cover missing above the bed. What the website promised also didn’t match what we got in our room. It listed a pillow top and sleep number mattress, but ours was an 8" king memory foam mattress that probably should’ve been replaced many stays ago. We didn’t sleep well. The room had no plush signature robes, or any robes at all. The listing mentioned a new hot tub, but we never found one or any sign of it, like directions or signage. Breakfast was described as hot and made fresh, which it was, but the only hot choices were scrambled eggs and hash browns. No meat, biscuits and gravy, waffles, pancakes, or anything else. It seems like a simple fix that could make breakfast more memorable.

The room in the carriage house was cold. We set the mini split to 80 for hours, then went out to dinner for most of the evening, but when we got back it didn’t seem any warmer. Other than that, it was just okay. The room was moderately clean and breakfast adequate.

I had a bad experience talking with Jennifer, the events coordinator, about hosting my baby shower. I asked about pricing and accommodations and got a hostile, rude response. Based just on my questions, she suggested the space wasn’t right for me. Anyone would have questions about a special day like a baby shower. If you’re thinking of holding an event here, wedding or otherwise, I’d really reconsider.

ATTENTION BRIDES TO BE!!! My wife and I booked the Blackwell hotel for October 24, 2025, on December 23, 2024, nearly a year ahead. We wanted a lovely place for her and the bridesmaids to get ready. Two days before the reservation, the Blackwell hotel told us there would be a wedding at the hotel. We immediately asked what that meant for our booking and were told nothing had changed. When my wife arrived Friday, October 24, everything seemed fine. She and the other bridal party even became friends. On our wedding day, while my wife was getting ready for a first look with her father, staff told our family and bridesmaids they couldn’t do a first look or take pictures on the property, then asked them to leave. The bridesmaids were shocked and tried to understand why. They were met with hostility. I’ll hold my family accountable: my sister can be a handful, and she was confused and angry about the disrespect toward her new sister, so she definitely had a tone and attitude. But the hostility from staff was unlike anything I’ve seen in hospitality. Three women surrounded my sister, yelled at and harassed her. She put her hand up and asked them to stop yelling, then turned to gather her things after being trespassed. Staff also asked all the other bridesmaids and family, including my wife’s father, to leave. My wife was left alone with only the photographer. THE BLACKWELL HOTEL MADE MY WIFE CRY ON HER WEDDING DAY AND TOOK AWAY HER FIRST LOOK WITH HER FATHER. My wife tried twice to call hotel staff during the chaos and couldn’t reach anyone. When we contacted them today to hear their side, all we got was an apology that their event planner is loud, and that two adults talking could have solved it. My wife had tried to talk to someone. If you plan to stay at the Blackwell Hotel, make sure there isn’t a wedding happening. The staff left other guests feeling disregarded.
