Hueston Woods Lodge and Conference Center

My wife and I booked a 'Premier Cabin' at Hueston Woods Lodge for a romantic Valentine’s Day, but the stay was a nightmare from the start. The cabin was filthy, run-down, and, in our view, structurally unsafe, far beyond merely rustic or dated. The cleanliness was appalling. The toilet had what looked like dried blood or feces smeared on the outside, with visible wipe marks, and clearly hadn’t been cleaned. The refrigerator was disgusting, the floors were dirty, and every light fixture had dead bugs inside. The furniture had collapsed and was covered with cigarette burns, and the tables looked as if they’d been dragged out of a dumpster. We’d specifically chosen a cabin for the fireplace, but it wouldn’t light. Maintenance spent an hour trying to fix it, then admitted they didn’t have the parts. In the utility room, an active leak dripped onto live electrical wires. The pipes were corroded, vent pipes obstructed, and outlets hung exposed from the walls. There were no active carbon monoxide detectors in the cabin despite these apparent gas and fire risks. When I complained, staff said cabins were inspected after each rental and management walked through weekly. If that’s true, they’re willfully ignoring serious fire and biohazard problems. We have photos of the wiring, filth, and neglect. Don’t stay here until major repairs have been made and the place is shut down for them.
