Pike's Waterfront Lodge

There was a lot going on when we visited in early March: sledding onto the frozen Cheena River, reindeers to visit, and a free aurora movie. With the river frozen, you could walk on it for miles. Breakfast was better than average, and the free pickup and drop-off to the airport and Alaskan railroad were really useful. For a stay longer than a day, I’d suggest renting a car since Uber can get expensive. Fun hotel.

The frozen river behind the property was beautiful, and we even saw a Moose family on-site. The location is handy, about 5 minutes from the airport, with a shuttle service. I stayed here in winter and had an above average experience. They have rooms and cabins, plus breakfast with very few choices. The food tastes good, but the menu could use some work. Most of the front desk staff were friendly and helpful, although one middle-aged female staff member I dealt with was not very welcoming. It wasn’t that bad overall.

We had a super comfortable stay, and the management was so generous. We left our swim suits behind, and I hadn’t even followed up, but a package with them arrived from UPS today. They sent them without us asking or calling. When we ran out of lotion, room service brought about 10, lol. Whatever we asked for, they gave us plenty. Such a cute place, with lots to do indoors and so many activities and games. Highly recommend. If we could, we’d give it 11/10!

The free shuttle runs to and from the airport anytime, and the airport is only 5 minutes away. That was a big plus, along with the free breakfast. There’s also ice cream for sale from 6 pm to 9 pm. The people at Pike’s were nice, and wherever else we went, people were helpful and friendly too. We really enjoyed our stay. The rooms are big and clean, and each has a viewing balcony for northern lights. There are lots of attractions around the lodge for both children and adults. I’ll certainly recommend it to all my friends.
