The constant noise was probably the worst part: people shouted in the hall and adjoining rooms, banged on doors, and slammed them at all hours. I can't say what was happening, but it was possible someone, including children, was being hurt. The common areas smelled strongly of cigarette smoke and marijuana despite the no-smoking policy. People lingered in the parking lot asking for money and watching guests come and go. I wasn't personally afraid, though I think solo travelers, especially women, could feel very uncomfortable. The side access doors should be locked, and the public areas need updating. To me, the place felt like it was being run as a kind of flophouse, which is awkward for business travel. I don't expect Changra La at this price, but management could do better. Providing kitchen items, perhaps for a deposit or rental fee, would help. People looking for an extended stay probably won't return until some basics improve. I also had trouble with the room itself. The closet had no hangers or hooks, or even a door, the lighting was dim, and the chairs were disgustingly dirty. The heating and AC unit malfunctioned, the refrigerator was extremely loud, the range smoked when switched on, and the toilet only flushed sometimes. It's hard to find the hotel, and walking to nearby places didn't feel safe, though restaurants and grocery stores are close. The hotel advertises itself as an extended-stay property with a kitchen, but there was no cookware, cutlery, plates, bowls, cups, utensils, or even soap. When I raised this with management, they said kitchen or eating utensils weren't their responsibility. I also reported that the deadbolt wouldn't latch. They seemed uninterested in the kitchen issue and promised to fix the lock, but it never happened.
