SpringHill Suites Colorado Springs South

The pool was just the right temperature, breakfast was really good, and the young man keeping the food stocked was friendly and quick about refilling things. My 23-year-old son and his friend also said the gym was the best they’d seen out of the six hotels we’ve stayed at in Springs. We booked a mountain view king room with a sofa bed, and it was clean. The fridge wasn’t cooling well at first; the front desk gentleman couldn’t fix it, and maintenance had left for the day since it was after 6 on a Saturday. I told him not to worry. We put ice in the little kitchenette sink, then noticed around midnight that the fridge had gotten cold. We’ll definitely come back.

The location is convenient and the area near the airport was quiet, but the rooms felt dated. The TV was small, and the DirecTV setup was confusing or didn’t work well, so I wouldn’t count on watching TV. There were no streaming options either. At the desk, I was told late checkout would cost $25, though I understood it was supposed to be guaranteed with my Bonvoy Platinum status. The clerk said the property manager set that rule, even though it went against Marriott’s Terms & Conditions. I couldn’t find the fee mentioned on the hotel website or booking platforms.

The bathroom was a letdown: the toilet was extremely small, almost kindergarten-sized, with a split seat that felt uncomfortable and unhygienic. At 65, I’d really appreciate comfort-height toilets, and I think plenty of guests would too. I also found the TV picture so dark it was hard to watch, and couldn’t find a way to adjust it on the remote. At check-in I was told this was a “Marriott-affiliated” property rather than a standard Marriott. That came up because they charged $75 for my small pet. Other SpringHill Suites I’ve used charge $50, and the desk staff said the fee was essentially the general manager’s decision. I’d first booked the downtown SpringHill Suites, where pets were $50, then switched to this location. The policy difference disappointed me. It’s also hard for me to understand calling a hotel “pet friendly” while adding a pet fee.

The mirror facing the toilet was a funny touch, I guess everyone wants to watch themselves in there 😂. The room itself was nice and the bed was comfortable, but it didn’t feel up to SpringHill Suites standards. There was no wired connection under the desk, no USB ports, and no outlets by either side of the bed. Maybe the hotel’s age explains it, but it could use a refresh.
