Glacier Basecamp Lodge

We stayed for a week and found the laundry worked well. There are several options here, including little tents, and our room had a furnished kitchenette. The staff were great, and the place has new management. It isn’t new, so some things could use updating, though perhaps the new management has that planned. I hope they keep it affordable.

We were lucky to get the last room at Glacier Basecamo Lodge after arriving at a VRBO that wasn’t as described and didn’t feel safe, so we canceled that reservation. Check-in was easy, and our room was clean, ready, and comfortable, with an amazing view. The lodge is close to both Glacier NP and Flathead Lake. Guests can use the washers and dryers for free, which we really appreciated. The lodge office is in a building with a Starbucks, a short walk away for morning coffee, which was a bonus for me. We’d happily stay again if we return and would recommend it.

Our room wasn’t cleaned even after I specifically asked for the floor to be mopped. The lino looked like it hadn’t been washed in months, and when we came back after a day out, nothing had been done. The front desk clerk insisted it had been cleaned. I showed her the towel I’d stepped on, which was visibly dirty, and she basically told me I’d have to live with it. We’d asked for a first-floor room but were initially put on the second floor. When we requested a change, the first-floor room felt like a repainted Motel 6. There were three adults and one child, and this stay was meant to be a special treat for my daughter and grandson to celebrate recovering from Covid. I booked after reading the reviews and trusted hotels.com to provide at least a sanitary room, even if amenities were lacking. Don’t be fooled by the other reviews. Keep looking.

The hotel has a lot of character, and I loved it enough to stay again. Our room was spacious and nice, with two separate beds, and the staff were friendly and quick to respond. There are cute cabins too, right beside the mountains at a corner of the main road. Columbia Falls has what you need for quick picnic supplies, so there’s no need to drive far. Kalispell is less than 20 minutes away for shopping before heading to Glacier, and Whitefish is about 10 minutes away. We also found a very nice pizza place with vegan options, which was a real treat.
