Days Inn by Wyndham Columbus-North Fort Moore

I arrived around 2:20 p.m. and asked the woman if there were any rooms. She replied rudely, “I will at 3!” There was no greeting or basic politeness. Next door at Comfort Inn, a pleasant employee checked me in early even though the sign said 3 p.m. A little courtesy goes a long way, and making an exception sometimes doesn’t hurt. Days Inn, take note.

The curtains had worn holes and wouldn’t close all the way, so I had to tie them shut with a hair tie. The room was dirty and had cockroaches. When they supposedly cleaned it on our second day, they only straightened the beds. The toilet had been used and not flushed, there was a dirty washcloth in the tub, and the sink was still dirty. I hope there weren’t bed bugs too. I didn’t see any evidence, but I have a few new bites and can’t tell whether they’re from mosquitoes, cockroaches, or bed bugs. I’ll never stay at a Days Inn again.

The staff are very nice, and the room was clean like usual. This is my favorite place in Columbus to rent a room. The pancake breasts are awesome, so don’t miss those.

For me, the breakfast was nearly useless because I eat low carb and the food was loaded with starch or sugar. More people are cutting down on those, and the only thing that helped me was the coffee, which I did appreciate. When I checked out, I tried to tell the manager and desk clerk about the maintenance problems, but the clerk didn’t acknowledge me or even look up from her phone. The manager gave me what felt like rude lip service. I was shocked to be treated that way, especially with him right there. I spent my whole career in management and am now retired. If I’d seen an employee ignore a customer like that, I’d have taken disciplinary action immediately. It felt like the manager and employee weren’t keeping a professional distance. The best I can say is that this place is a “port in a storm.” The shower curtain rod was curved to keep the curtain away from you, but someone had pulled it down. It would stay back up as long as you didn’t tug on it. The toilet also ran constantly. We were staying about 4 miles from Midtown Piedmont hospital, where my son was being treated. The rooms were adequate in a building that seemed several decades old, with doors that didn’t quite fit, though it appeared fairly well maintained.
