The Plaza Hotel Columbus at Capitol Square

The beds felt like bricks, and the sheets and comforters were rough rather than soft. The pillows were stiff and hard to bear. I stayed for two nights and three days and never got room service. I asked for towels, but they were left on the hallway floor outside my door. The maid service sign was on the handle, yet staff continued to ignore our room. We came back to soggy towels hanging up and unmade beds. Changing the AC temperature didn’t seem to make any difference. I don’t recommend this place.

We eventually left for a Hampton the next morning. The bed creaked more than any I’ve slept on, there was no hot water in the shower, and I even found a stink bug in the bedding. We came for a baseball coaches convention after the convention center recommended the place. Parking was a joke, and although valet was offered, the valet was nowhere to be found and apparently didn’t come in all day. Our first room hadn’t been prepared: the trash cans were cleared but knocked over, the bedding was thrown around, and the bathroom was pretty gross. We got another room that was ready, but it was set to 78 degrees. We switched on the AC and went to the hotel bar. The bartender’s heavy pour was the only good thing about the place. When we returned, it was 80 degrees. We were told the mechanic had gone home for the night, turned off the AC power, and that it was only pumping hot air if the thermostat was on. This place should be demolished.

The hotel wasn’t ready for the number of guests at our volleyball tournament. There was only one working elevator, and the wait to go up or down was often 10 minutes or more. No fridge or microwave in the room, and I tried six floors before finding an ice machine that worked. The room coffee maker wouldn’t work with the supplied pods, while the lobby coffee was either cold or full of grounds. Terrible experience.

The staff were friendly, though they couldn’t do much with the resources available. Being close to the Statehouse was convenient, but only one of the four elevators worked, the conference center escalators were broken, and there was no valet. My room wouldn’t cool below 75 degrees, and I had to get my keycard reprogrammed every time I left.
