Americas Best Value Inn Stonington Mystic

The room was decent for the price, and the location is handy for Mystic and Misquamicut beach, both about a 20 minute drive away. Service was the problem. They only came by at noon and wouldn't enter if you were in the room, or come back later. We stayed in for the last two days and left later than usual for activities around town, so the trash piled up in the two tiny bins. They also banged on the door so aggressively during our nap that it scared us. It wasn't the worst hotel for a last minute trip, but I won't be back.

A clean room in a great spot for the local wedding venues. The bathroom was small, but modern and clean. A solid three stars.

We'd read the reviews before booking and figured the complaints were from people who just like to gripe. Then our stay turned out so comically bad we kept laughing at our luck. The fire alarm kept beeping, and we couldn't get anyone to fix it. There was never hot water in the shower, so we had to wash at the sink. The TV wasn't smart and only had a few channels, which would've been fine if the service hadn't kept cutting in and out. Thin bedding and a bad smell were among the smaller problems. You get what you pay for!

The TV was tiny for watching from bed, and the wiring behind it looked absurd. The fridge was dirty, the floor hadn't been vacuumed, and there was grime on the walls, trim, and door. The musty smell was disgusting and stayed even with the windows open all day. The place looked neglected as soon as we pulled up, and even worse once inside. The Expedia photos look like they were taken right after renovations, or something, and don't match the reality. It felt like the owners didn't care and were just collecting a check. So many of these issues would be easy to fix if they did. We didn't want to stay, but didn't want to waste the money. My wife was so disgusted she didn't even want to do what married couples do 😩
