Hampton Inn Iowa City/Coralville

Just off the freeway exit, this is a great spot. I found the room clean, the bed comfortable, and the hot breakfast very good. There’s also a pool and fitness center. My only small gripe was that the closet in my room was pretty shallow. I’d stay here again.

The front desk clerk and breakfast attendant were both friendly, and the shared areas were clean. We asked for the room to be cleaned and for fresh towels, but came back to find the tip gone and the room untouched. We also made the mistake of booking during the Hawkeyes homecoming game, so we paid rates like it was a 5 star hotel. In reality, it was just a nice, clean Hampton Inn.

Service was good, and it was quiet apart from the occasional loonatic on the highway. Our room was downstairs in the basement, which is still very much under construction. There were a couple of odd things I didn’t like: the toilet paper holder sits far behind and to the side of the toilet, and a chair in the corner completely blocks a storage area for guests.

It’s about 10 minutes from the Devonian Fossil Gorge, which I was excited to visit again. The location is walkable too, with a nearby path that goes under the roadways and over the freeway so you can explore farther. The front desk associate was polite, friendly, quick, and efficient. The spaces were clean and fresh, and I made good use of the coffee bar during my stay. Breakfast was included with lots of options, including oatmeal, cereals, bacon, potatoes, waffles, toast, and more. I had a lovely stay and would happily return.
