Residence Inn by Marriott Coralville

The room was terribly smelly, like a horse barn, and it was showing its age. There must've been ten layers of caulk in the shower. I asked if they could deodorize it and whether we were obligated to stay the second day, since we planned to find another hotel. Staff said we were obligated and that they'd deodorize the room. We were out for several hours, but when we came back it smelled just the same. I'm usually not too picky, but I'll never stay here again.

I've stayed here around 100 nights over the years, and the staff have always been courteous and helpful. The rooms have king beds, so if you need two queens, sorry, but there are pullout sleeper sofas. You can see some age in the wallpaper and a few other spots, though it's still in good shape overall and a great place to stay.

The rooms are a good size, and the front office staff are pleasant. I've stayed at a lot of RI properties, though, and this one is perennially a bit beat up, maybe from the college football crowd. On this visit, our room wasn't serviced during our four-day stay. The front desk wasn't apologetic or helpful about it. Not up to Marriott standards.

This is one of the worst Marriott stays I've had. The Residence Inn is old, dirty, and disgusting. The tub drain was so slow that shower water took hours to go down, and the sinks had the same problem. I asked staff several times to fix it, but when I checked out, the manager said she had no record of my requests. Breakfast was awful even by hotel standards. Avoid this one.
