Lake Norman Inn and Suites

The only good part was the kind woman who checked us in. I can see why she called ahead to charge the card, because if we'd seen the room first, there's no way we would have stayed. We were delayed by the event we were attending and didn't reach the hotel until late, so we couldn't change plans. We spent the night reluctantly and left at first light. I felt completely misled by the online images and by a reviewer's photos that must have shown a renovation. The room was large but mostly empty, with little furniture, exposed wiring, kids' stickers on the fridge, and a bed frame coming apart. The old mattress sagged, had visible stains, and no protector; the worn bedding was dirty. It reeked of cigarette smoke, and even the apparently new floors had hair, crumbs, and dirt on them. The owners seem to show no care or upkeep for the property. We were absolutely catfished. Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else.

The staff were nice and quick to respond to questions and needs, and the nightly rate was very reasonable. The hallways were noisy and dusty because renovations are underway, and the parking lot seemed a bit small. In our room, there was no smoke detector, and the shower's hot and cold water were reversed. Breakfast was decent and the coffee was good. We'd consider staying again if we're in the area.

Brenda at the front desk was really nice, and the rooms were clean and fresh. We were pleasantly surprised by the lobby improvements and breakfast, too. Our family remembers this as a 2 star hotel, but it's been transformed into a luxurious 5 star hotel at single star prices. My autistic child Jeremy loved the new chandelier. Seriously, this place won't let you down.

We left as soon as we could. The room had fresh bedding and towels, but otherwise looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a long time. Cigarette smoke and broken promises were the smell. The tub and toilet were stained, there was hair stuck to the tub wall, and the toilet thunked against the wall when you stood up. White powder was splashed along the bottom of the drawers, the headboards were streaked with unspeakable things, and the lamp shade looked like it had been in a bloody fistfight. On the way down the hall there was a nursing-home-esque smell. The lobby had big boxes wrapped in cling wrap and bare wires coming out of the walls. Outside, the front sign was on the ground and caution tape covered the entrance overhang after someone hit the roof. Run away!
