Coronado Inn

The staff were kind and helpful all the way from booking through checkout, and I loved staying here with my family of four. Our family suite was peaceful and worked really well. The small kitchen and full-size fridge helped us save on meals out, while the sofa bed and living room gave us what felt like two bedrooms. I came down in the morning for some of the best hotel coffee I've had, made with a Jura espresso machine, for those who know it. We had a lovely breezy ride around Coronado on the beach cruisers. Most things are walkable, and driving is easy too.

The location was convenient, with excellent restaurants nearby that we could reach on foot. The stay also included free bike rentals, if you can get a bike, since other guests sometimes kept the keys or didn't return them. Our kitchen suite was pretty bare, and the rooms felt dated. WiFi and cell reception were awful throughout the room, making it hard to work reliably or even stream.

I liked this place overall and have stayed twice. It's handy for families, with a kitchen that has a fridge, oven, stove, dishes, and more, plus multiple beds and outdoor options like the pool, BBQ, yard games, and parking. The rooms are cute, though small, like a lot of places on Coronado. The shops and beach are walkable, which is great when parking gets difficult. A Walmart grocery pickup worked well for us. The beds were hard, there were ants, and the bathroom could use a fan. Still, having the kitchen and the location made it a good fit.

When we returned from a day out, I saw what I assume was a family member of someone who works at the property fixing a car in the guest parking area. It made me wonder whether someone on site could have caused scratches or dents if you leave your car there. The same worker had a brown husky. When my wife left our door ajar while I went to the car, the dog stepped inside with a woman walking him. The next day, it was on a leash but no one was holding it, and it wandered the property, sniffing guests as they headed to their rooms. We arrived around 6 pm and found a sign saying to call if checking in or needing help. Someone from the office came promptly after we called. Parking is limited, so a larger vehicle may be difficult. Our family suite seemed okay at first, but then we noticed crumbs on the fridge, heavy dust on switches, outlets, and bathroom lights, floors that left our feet and socks black, something like mold or rock in the bathroom window, an unmaintained mini split, and taped flooring. I'd seen reviews saying some rooms had recently been redone, but I don't know whether ours was still waiting for renovation or was supposed to be one of the updated rooms. We're often in Coronado for training and school, and we've usually found rooms on the island better maintained. I wasn't impressed with this stay.
