Shore House at The Del, LXR Hotels & Resorts

My room was lovely, quiet, and clean, with an easy walk to both the main Hotel del Coronado and the Shore House meeting rooms. The staff were fabulous everywhere I went. There was some confusion about my room key at check-in, but the desk agent helped me use the Hilton app and walked me to my room to check that the digital key worked. Physical keys arrived just minutes later. I highly recommend Shore House at the Del.

Update: the manager's response below says a lot about the service you can expect. Buyer beware. We paid $8,200, or $1,600 a night, for five nights in a two-bedroom Oceanview villa at the Shore House. It's marketed as the luxury or exclusive option at the coranado hotel, but we found gaps in service and several problems. The rooms were clean and well appointed, and we had access to the Shore House pool and the on-site breakfast bistro. Beyond that, very little felt exclusive, and other parts of the hotel offered more. For a much lower price, the Fairmont, a five-star hotel, would have been a better choice with better service. I'm disappointed Amex lists this as one of its "luxury fine choice hotels." The bistro's buffet breakfast was poor on all three mornings we ate there. Service was nearly nonexistent. I had to get up to find someone when we needed coffee, water, or anything else, and once they hadn't set the table with water glasses. One morning they had no coffee cream and brought milk in a soy sauce container. At the main hotel, Veranda's buffet had significantly better food, more options, and much better service. Poolside service was no better. A waiter brought a menu 40 minutes after we asked, then never returned to take our order. At check-in, we asked for help with our bags because we had a baby. We were told no one was available, and they wouldn't lend us a luggage cart because an employee had to operate it. We had to haul our luggage and stroller ourselves. The air conditioning on the upper floor of our two-level room didn't work. One room where our daughter slept was probably 80 degrees. After we reported it, someone came and said we'd set the temperature too high, though it was at 70, then lowered it to 63 and left. That made our room freezing while upstairs stayed warm. Our baby ended up sleeping in our room, which defeated the point of paying for a two-bedroom suite. If you stay here, I'd suggest experiencing the hotel without paying extra for anything described as exclusive. A property that calls itself a resort should have the service and amenities to back that up. At $1,600 a night, you're better off booking the Ritz, Four Seasons, or Fairmont.

Once we got settled, our stay at the LXR Shore House was smooth sailing. The property is stunning and beautifully maintained, with a sophisticated but fun feel that never seemed over the top. We loved the excellent food and the upscale yet relaxed atmosphere. The start was bumpy: our first ocean-view room had a carbon monoxide alarm issue, and the second room wasn't as impressive. As Hilton Gold members, we were quickly upgraded to a spectacular suite with street and Bay views. It was huge and beautifully appointed. Jason Williams, the Bowmen/Valet, made our stay memorable. He helped us out, showed us around, and went above and beyond to make us feel at home. Kim at the front desk was warm, professional, and caring, and Becca was wonderful too. Both made sure everything was right after the room change. I'd read some mixed reviews, but our experience exceeded expectations. Five stars out of five, and I'd return ten out of ten times. Highly recommend the LXR Shore House. Say hi to Jason, Kim, and Becca if you go.

The ocean views speak to your soul, and the staff made our visit great. Kian made sure our arrival went perfectly, and Bob and AJ at the pool bar were amazing. Shore House is wonderful. We'll definitely be back!
