The website photos made the rooms look decent, but seeing them in person felt like getting catfished. We were meant to stay two nights, but the upstairs rooms were dark, smelled bad, and had doors that were hard to open. Once inside, the rooms smelled like roach bait, the bathrooms looked dirty, and everything seemed rundown and outdated. We looked at each other and knew we weren't sleeping there. I didn't even want to sit on the bed, so I started calling other hotels right away. It felt like a Twilight Zone episode. We found rooms at the Motel 6 off Paul Jones Ave almost immediately, and what a difference. The Twilight Zone motel still charged us for both nights. What a waste of money, and such a disappointment. Beware.

Paul cancelled our room on the day we were supposed to check in, Fourth of July. We were told it was occupied and that we should have been notified, but nobody contacted me. We had to scramble for a room when everything was booked or going for $500 or more. I'd booked ahead because the rate was cheap. They didn't try to help, just said sorry, and the hotel was run down and nothing like the pictures. We were left in a mess that proper notice would have prevented. I also called ahead about bringing a pet and was told it was allowed for a $20 fee. At the hotel, signs said no pets. They're not pet friendly. Looking at earlier reviews, last minute cancellations when guests have pets seem to happen a lot. Maybe they were trying to sell the room for more on the holiday.

I checked out before I'd even been there an hour. The owner didn't ask why. The bedding and towels were stained, and the shampoo and soap had already been used and had hair on them. The shower wouldn't drain, the walls were thin and the neighbors loud, and the lot felt sketchy. Everything looked run down, with duct tape holding the floor together by the bathroom. I put food on the nightstand and almost immediately a cockroach came out from behind the bed. Easily the worst place I've stayed, and I've been to a lot of places in different states.
