The Plaza at North Beach Corpus Christi

The location was perfect, with direct access to the beach, restaurants, and gift shops. The rooms weren't very clean, though. There was hair in the shower, the carpets hadn't been vacuumed well, and the fridge, coffee maker, and microwave were all very dirty. There was one person at the front desk, and she was also checking rooms, so another woman and I waited about 20 minutes to check in. My room didn't have any towels. That's why I gave it two stars.

The only thing I liked was the view from my room. I checked in at 4 but didn't get a room until after 5. The toilet was filthy, with poop on the seat and inside the bowl. There were no towels or toiletries, my brother's key didn't work, and there was hair under the sheets that wasn't mine. The pool water looked almost green. They knew there was no hot water but didn't tell us at check-in. When we found out and asked, the front desk said it would be fixed by 10 the next morning, but it wasn't. I'm still waiting for a refund, and the hotel charged my card twice. One of the worst stays I've ever had.

I first stayed here in 2016 when I came to Corpus to meet my biological dad. After he died in 2020, this hotel held special memories for me. It was never a five-star place, but it used to be comfortable and clean, with beach access and a great breakfast. This year I brought my mom and stepdad for their first visit, and I was embarrassed. The rooms were falling apart. We were supposed to have a fridge in each room, but only one had one. They offered to switch us, but the other room's AC was broken, so we stayed put. The ice machine was supposedly broken, leaving us without ice for the whole stay. We arrived Thursday, and the pool looked green. The agent didn't know if anyone would check or clean it. Breakfast had been cut back a lot. Our rooms weren't cleaned properly, with hair in the shower, dirty floors, and mildew in the bathroom. The curtains were torn and couldn't block the light coming in from the balcony, which couldn't be turned off. I'd seen the recent reviews but decided to return because we'd stayed before. It was a terrible visit, and we're not coming back. I raised my concerns with the women at the front desk, but they couldn't act without the manager, who was out of town. If you're in your 20s or early 30s and like partying, maybe it's just somewhere to sleep while drunk. Otherwise, I'd spend my money somewhere else.

What was supposed to be a pleasant New Year's beach stay turned into a nightmare. My wife and I arrived around 10 p.m. on the 31st when the weather was nice and asked for two nights. The receptionist was friendly at first, but the key he gave me didn't work. He walked downstairs with me to check, then offered another room with a key he said was the master key and couldn't leave with us. We refused. He tried a different key for the first room, and it opened. The sheets and covers were filthy, towels had yellow marks, there was old coffee, and we saw roaches. I asked for another room, and he walked me through several, but they were all nasty. He said every room was in the same condition. We stayed one night without sleeping because we didn't want to lie on the bed, then left early. At the front desk, I asked the woman for a refund and to speak with a manager. There was nobody else there, and she just gave me a business card to call. Very disappointing. The city should inspect this place.
