Econo Lodge Cortez near Mesa Verde

I reserved this for a construction crew for two weeks because the listing promised a kitchenette with a full-size fridge and electric burner. Neither was in the room. The kitchenette lights didn’t work either, and the walls were thin enough that every sound from nearby bathrooms came through. We tried reaching someone to sort it out, but the main phone line went unanswered at every hour. I emailed the General Manager and got no reply. Choice Hotels Corporate opened a case over the conditions, yet the hotel still denied a refund for the unused nights, pointing to “policy” even though they hadn’t provided the room type we paid for. The advertised amenities weren’t there, and once they had our money, they ignored us. If you need a functional room or a reliable stay, look elsewhere.

Best budget hotel we’ve found. We’ve stayed in quite a few places around cortez this year, and the cheaper ones often had rooms that hadn’t been cleaned. This one was super clean, with friendly service and a really nice layout. There’s no elevator, but compared with the other budget options, this place has risen from the ashes and shone beyond the hotel gods. We’ll be back on future trips. The room at Econo Lodge in Cortez was spotless and smelled good, the bed was comfortable, and there was plenty of hot water. The staff were so courteous, sweet, and thoughtful. I also appreciated being able to bring my pet. If I pass through Cortez again, I’ll stay here without hesitation.

The front desk service was what made this hotel a five-star stay for me. The man who checked us in was kind, polite, and helpful, and the room was clean. The bed was mostly comfortable, though its springs made a little noise. There was a window in the shower, which helped clear out steam and bathroom odors. Breakfast was very good, with eggs, sausage, toast, bagels, muffins, cereal, coffee, and juice. It was much better than I expected, and a good value.
