Holiday Inn Express Corydon by IHG

The room and pool were good, and breakfast was good too. The breakfast employee was working hard to keep everything stocked for a crowd by herself. She did a great job, but looked stressed. The gym had reasonable equipment, though it needed more wipes and towels. The shower still had its middle door section in place, which isn’t what I expect at this nightly price. Service was the main problem. We arrived Friday night, the day before Valentine’s Day, within an hour of checking in, but nobody was at the desk. I waited 45 minutes before I could check in, and the staff member wasn’t polite. She later corrected her tone and apologized for the wait and her mistake, but that shaped the rest of my stay. With the hotel so understaffed, I wouldn’t stay again.

There are several restaurants close by, along with a Walmart, and the hotel has an indoor pool, fitness room, washer and dryer, and an okay breakfast. If you need quarters for the laundry, there’s a car wash directly behind the building. Staff were friendly and the place was clean, with nice amenities. I don’t think it’s quite a four-star hotel, but they do a good job caring for it and making guests comfortable. I usually stay at another local hotel, but it’s diminished over the last couple of years. This Holiday Inn was a nice change.

The hotel and room were nice, and the staff were kind, especially Sara, I think. The location was convenient, close to a handful of restaurants, and seemed walkable. We stayed one night in February. The room was nicely updated, though the bathroom caulking looked a little gross. Pillows were flat and the bed was a bit hard. The shower floor was dangerously slick, so we stood on a towel to shower. Breakfast was disgusting, very processed and just heated up. The pool hallway smelled strongly of bleach, and the smell reached the lobby. The snack area was pretty bare, and I didn’t see any vending machines, though we didn’t need snacks. I’d still recommend the hotel, but I’d get breakfast elsewhere and check the shower floor before putting all my weight on one leg stepping in.

The room was clean and the staff were very accommodating, but the breakfast was a concern. My wife and I each took a cinnamon roll that wasn’t individually packaged. After I’d finished mine, she looked more closely at hers and found mold covering the bottom. I immediately showed it to a staff member, who threw all the rolls off the counter. Food needs to be monitored much more carefully, since there’s no way to know how many people might have eaten the moldy ones that morning. I might stay again, but I don’t think I’ll risk the complimentary food.
