Castle Creek Inn

We had a great time here. The architecture, decor, and landscaping are beautiful, and the place has a romantic feel. There are games and DVDs to choose from, and we had a blast with the pool table. Breakfast was good, too. We walked to dinner, with lots of choices within about a mile.

I enjoyed my stay, but dealing with whoever answers the phone was really frustrating. When I called to book and later to change the reservation, they kept saying “hello, hello” and hanging up. It happened more than once on both occasions. Then my husband called from his cell right after the person hung up on me, and she answered him right away. I couldn't change the booking without him calling and handling it for me. It sounded like she didn't want to do her job, which was annoying.

The innkeeper was quick to respond when we needed anything. We stayed in the Ivanhoe room, which was perfectly charming, and had a great little romantic getaway.

We stayed in The King's Lodge, a unique room in a nice building, and the bathtub with the fireplace was the highlight for me. We brought candles, bath supplies, and dessert. The water got really hot, and since the basement room was a bit cold, turning on the fireplace warmed us right up. The outdoor seating area is nice, and with the trees and creek running through the property, you could hardly tell you were in town. I hope they replace the bench and tidy the area for guests. The pool table has clearly seen years of use. Most of the sides barely bounced, so a few good shots went wrong, but it was still a fun extra thing to have in the room. The room had some lighting problems too. We had to unscrew bulbs that kept flickering, and there wasn't a switch to turn them off. The bathroom was filthy, which was a real disappointment given how much we paid. I sent feedback by email, and they replied that they'd discuss it at a staff meeting and thanked me for letting them know. I felt some of the cost should have been refunded because it was so bad. The service otherwise was decent. Breakfast was brought to our room at the time we picked, which was very convenient. There was free water, tea, coffee, and hot chocolate, plus cookies and popcorn to make before watching a DVD if you wanted. The location is handy, with restaurants and other date activities about 5-15 minutes away in different directions, so dinner options were plentiful and it wasn't too far out of the way. It's kid-free, and the adults keep to themselves.
