Homewood Suites By Hilton Covington

Scott at the Front Desk was wonderful, and I enjoyed the well-kept room and its nice spot in the building. A change was needed on my scheduled arrival day, and I hope Hilton can do a better job of notifying guests when that happens. What seemed headed for a bad experience ended up turning out nicely. I see it as a hiccup that didn’t affect how I felt about my stay, the hotel, or its staff. I’d stayed here before, though I hadn’t remembered that when I booked.

The staff, as few as there are, were awesome, but the hotel itself was disappointing. We booked seven nights in December, hoping to get the same kind of suite we’d had on a previous stay. The elevator near our room, the front entrance, and our handicap parking spot was out of order. With parts delayed, we had a long walk to another elevator. I’m 65 and have physical issues, and my husband is 70. We had to move to a smaller room closer to the working elevator, but still had a long walk to the car and breakfast dining room. There were problems in the replacement room too: the refrigerator’s icemaker didn’t work, the bathroom exhaust fan was broken, and hot water for a shower was unpredictable. You can’t reach anyone at the front desk, so now I have to make that long walk just to ask for things. This is the only nearby hotel with the suite we need at a price we can afford, since our daughter and her family live close by. I’m still waiting to hear whether they’ll reduce our rate after the unexpected downgrade.

Lindsay was polite and accommodating, and the hospitality was great. I expected the property to be cleaner, though. The hallways need updating, our room smelled, and the bathroom wasn’t up to par. The floors were sticky, there was hair in the tub, mildew marks on the shower curtain, and stains on the bed sheets. I expected more from Hilton.

The pool area outside was nice, especially the one-foot-deep splash pool for kids, and breakfast was pretty good. I’d stay here again, but I wouldn’t want that same room. It was a large, spread-out property with a pleasant front desk staff. Our room had what looked like water leak damage from the ceiling, staining the couch and buckling the laminate kitchen floor. There was also mold on the bedroom wall. If I’d been paying to stay there, I would’ve demanded another room. We were only there overnight and left by 8 a.m. I wish they’d had regular eggs. The mini omelettes had bell peppers, which I’m allergic to.
