Best Western Plus Crawfordsville Hotel

The second room wasn’t much of an improvement: the shower was nasty and there was still hair on the towels, though at least there were fewer bodily fluids around. I felt dirty just having set foot in either room. In the first one, there was semen on the headboard and nowhere clean to sit. Hair and pubic hair were on every layer of the sheets and on the supposedly fresh towels. Everything looked made up, with towels stocked and sheets arranged, but it was all stained and covered in hair. Staff said it might not have been cleaned yet. I had to ask to change rooms because of the cleanliness, something I’ve never had to do before. I wanted a refund so I could go to the hotel behind this one, but the staff didn’t know how to handle that. I’ve stayed in motels and never been this disgusted, especially at this price. Disgraceful.

The common area decor looked nice, but the floors were dirty and the bathrooms were awful. We were there with two other couples, and all three rooms had gross bathrooms. This was probably the worst I’ve seen in the US, though I’ve found plenty of hotels like this, even expensive ones. In Europe, people wouldn’t put up with living in filth. Americans apparently do. The faucet gunk, fingerprints on doors, and black moldy caulk around the tub were unacceptable. Housekeeping needs to use a sponge on surfaces instead of spraying and walking away. There are simple fixes: CLR or Lime Away for faucet buildup, ZEP for the ring around the toilet that rarely gets scrubbed, and the blue can of EZ Off for the dirty tile baseboard and grout. Any old cleaner should take the prints off doors. Why don’t they wipe bathroom doors and walls? What’s dripping down the walls, and what left those brownish yellow fingerprints? Who knows, but you can only wonder. And if they’re going to caulk, they should get a pro. How is this so hard? I’m tired of throwing good money at disgusting hotels.

Vera made our family reunion style get together wonderful. She was incredibly attentive, sweet, and happy to accommodate us while we used the small breakfast area to sit and eat. My family will definitely book here the next time they come through town.

The bed was just average for me, and the pillows felt too hard, so I didn’t sleep as well as I’d hoped. I also thought the price was higher than expected for the location and a Best Western. On the plus side, the room was clean, the service friendly, and breakfast was outstanding, especially the made-to-order omelet. The location worked well. Would I stay again? Maybe.
