We'd already had horrible stays at BW in Coos Bay and Clearlake, but decided to give it one more try. We're an easygoing family and only ask for a safe, comfortable room. The location was good, the room was okay, and the bed wasn't too bad. Then the power went out at 2 a.m. There was no working backup generator, and no emergency lights in the rooms, which are required by state law. My wife relies on a medical breathing device and woke in a panic, which led to an anxiety attack. We called the office and got no answer, then tried corporate. A snarky woman told us, "why dont you just walk over there". In the middle of a huge storm, we had to go outside to reach the office, but they wouldn't let us in. We used our phone lights to pack and left. With no light or hot water, we couldn't shower, and we missed breakfast. At home, we called and asked to speak with the manager. They said they were busy and would call back, but two days went by with no call. We wanted to give them a chance to explain and make things right. We've made up our minds now. We won't stay at Best Westerns again.

Whenever I'm in Crescent City, CA, I make a point of staying at Best Western Plus Northwoods Inn on Redwood Highway, also known as US 101. The Crescent City Marina is very close, and there are plenty of places to eat within walking distance. The rooms are clean, the beds comfortable, and staff are courteous and professional. Rooms include a club chair, work desk and swivel chair, small refrigerator, microwave, K-cup coffee maker, and TV. There's a gym and laundry, plus a hot breakfast. The breakfast room on the second floor has a great view.

It felt like a waste of money, especially given the high prices. The room's “view” was just a staircase, and the overall experience was incredibly disappointing for a place called Best Western. I've stayed at several cheaper hotels in Crescent City that were much better maintained. The hot water was completely cold in the morning and wouldn't heat up, and the toilet had serious plumbing trouble, with pipes rattling loudly. The pool was extremely cold and unpleasantly over-chlorinated, while the hot tub actually burned my skin. The floors were filthy, and the breakfast was terrible, honestly like eating plastic. Guests shouldn't have to wonder whether the water will work in the morning.

The front desk woman was kind and helpful, and our room was clean and comfortable. We enjoyed the gym, pool, hot tub, and sauna, and the laundry room was a big help during our trip. The breakfast room had a great view and a nice variety of food. We had a very pleasant stay.
