Chamonix Casino Hotel

Mike Bott made the stay special with generous, professional hospitality that felt sincere. The rooms were beautiful, comfortable, and clean, and everything felt welcoming and well cared for. It was one of my best stays in Cripple Creek. I'm grateful and already looking forward to coming back to try 980 steakhouse for the first time and have another go at the slots. Highly recommend.

The outdoor heated pool and spa amenities were great, and the look of the place is amazing. Walking in gave me that five star Vegas feeling, but that's where the comparison stopped. My partner and I came to celebrate my birthday, and check-in was a nightmare: no room was ready, and it took five hours to get one. There was no way to enjoy the hotel before checking in, so we were left sitting and staring. The following day was worse. One bartender was covering the entire casino floor, and although complimentary drink vouchers were handed out, we couldn't use them because the lobby bar didn't open until 5. You could see how frustrated the employees were trying to handle so many patrons. Chamonix markets itself as a Vegas style experience in Cripple Creek, but it doesn't meet its own expectations. Management keeps citing staffing as the explanation, while guests are still expected to spend money to enjoy themselves. A lot needs to improve, though I'm willing to give it another try later. Come expecting something different from Black Hawk or Vegas.

After we checked out of Chamonix Casino & Hotel on February 15, I realized I'd left my Apple Watch in room 4113. I called right away and was told Lost & Found would get back to me. When I called again that afternoon, I was told it hadn't been turned in. I asked for a manager to call, but didn't hear anything the next day, so I contacted the hotel again and eventually spoke with one. She said housekeeping was a third party company and she'd contact them. Later, she called to say housekeeping had emailed that they had no reports of the watch. I asked if they could speak directly with the specific housekeeping staff assigned to my room, since that response didn't make clear whether anyone had actually asked. The manager said that was the only answer available and she wouldn't send another follow-up email. She also said that if it had been taken, nothing could be done without proof, and the hotel was technically not liable for belongings left behind. I understand I left the watch in the room and take responsibility for that. Still, the lack of urgency, transparency, and follow-through was extremely disappointing. My fiancé and I are frequent guests who spend a significant amount gambling there each week, and we also spent considerably during our Valentine's weekend stay. Given that loyalty, I expected a more professional and ethical effort to resolve this, or at least clear, thorough communication. Instead, I was left with the impression that if staff take an item, guests are simply told nothing can be done. This has left a very bad taste and made me question the hotel's integrity and accountability.

Our host Michael B. was professional, kind, and attentive, and made us feel welcome and well looked after. The hotel is clean and thoughtfully designed throughout, with real care put into its look and feel. We had a small issue at first, but it was handled quickly and professionally. Chamonix and its staff made this a 10/10 stay, and I'd recommend it to anyone visiting the area.
