Hollywood Motel

Eddie really made the trip for me. The rooms are clean, safe, and old fashioned, and the atmosphere is friendly. He’s the owner and even plays cornhole with guests and fires up the grill on Sundays.

I was traveling alone, and Eddie walked me to the room after reassuring me that it should be safe and that I’d be close to the desk. It was 9 pm after a five-hour drive, and I needed to work nearby the next day. I’d booked two nights through Expedia and had the confirmation email, but he said he hadn’t received the reservation. The no vacancy sign was up too. After checking his list a couple of times, he offered me a room that was meant to have maintenance the next day for a leaky faucet. He said nothing else was wrong with it. It wasn’t the Hilton, and I hadn’t expected it to be, but it was clean. The water pressure was good, the towels and soap were clean, and the microwave and fridge were clean. The TV and remote worked with cable. I checked carefully and didn’t see any bugs. It was very quiet, with no noise from adjoining rooms or doors closing. The only issue was smoke drifting in from other rooms. I was in a smoking room because it was the only one left. Eddie promised me a much nicer non-smoking room next time. He was a pleasant gentleman and took good care of what I needed. I really appreciate it.

I arrived very late, well past normal check-in, and the owner was accommodating. He has a great sense of humor, listened when I told him about my rough day, and gave me kind advice. The room was clean, the bed was fluffy and comfortable, and there was a fridge and microwave. At Motel 6 in Kansas City I paid nearly twice as much and didn’t get those in-room appliances. The rates here are a steal, and the owner may be the nicest guy I’ve met. I smoke, and he allows smoking on the property and in the rooms, something the big chains no longer do. If you’re in the area, I highly recommend Hollywood Motel, even just for the management’s sense of humor. Everything else is a bonus. 10/10.

The motel and rooms were in very bad shape, looked gross, and didn’t feel safe. I checked out and went to the Ashley inn. It cost almost the same, and the rooms and location there were much better.
