Crown Resorts at Lake Tansi

The people were friendly, but the facilities were horrible. The whole place smelled funny, and a candle I bought did little to cover it up. Housekeeping seemed to have done the bare minimum. The sheets and towels were clean, but there was dirt and dust on top of things like the switch and outlet covers, the fridge, and the molding. They charge a cleaning fee, yet expect you to take out all the trash and strip the beds. The old plastic outdoor furniture was filthy and cracked. These townhomes need a complete renovation down to the studs. I'm guessing they were built in the mid-1980s, and nothing seems to have been updated since. Most of the furniture looks like it's from that era too, and the paint job was poor. The dishwasher seemed original, and the lower rack was missing wheels, making it hard to load and unload. The refrigerator had been replaced at some point, but it was still old and very noisy. The kitchen cabinets and drawers were awful. The bathrooms worked, but were embarrassingly outdated. There was a wall bracket for a hair dryer, but no dryer, and the exhaust vents were useless.

It's surprising RCI still has its name on this place. The walls were scraped up, the toilet paper holder was in pieces when we arrived, the beds were hard as rocks, and the heat only worked in the bedrooms. The rest of the house wouldn't warm up unless all the doors were left open. The resort is very old and hasn't been kept up well. The staff where we checked in were amazing and kind. I never dealt with maintenance.

The homes may be a bit outdated, but I didn't mind that. They're incredibly clean, from the floors to the carpet, and the staff are the kindest people I've dealt with in the hotel business. Brant at the front office and Tahisha in Housekeeping are top notch. We've loved our accommodations both times we've stayed in the last 2 weeks. I can be incredibly picky and hard to please, but Crown Resorts checked everything off my list. I'll keep coming back whenever we're working in the area. We had everything needed to cook, and the views are amazing with great deals. The one thing I'll mention is the hot water. Our first unit had about 7 minutes of it, but the second had more. Even with the older units, it's worth the stay. 10/10, would stay again!

The grounds are peaceful and clearly get a lot of attention. The grass is green and well manicured, and there's a lake within a couple of miles, though I wouldn't call the place “on the lake.” There's a lot to do, including several pools, golf and mini golf, boat rentals, and fishing. But both rooms we saw need serious updating and felt musty, and the blinds and handrails need cleaning. We were first given a room that didn't match the description of our reservation, though they did correct that and put us in one with the right bed arrangement. We came from out of state after my father-in-law died suddenly. Other places within driving distance were booked, so we ended up here. While we were at the dining table talking about his cremation, a cockroach ran across the counter. You also have to pay to use the coin laundry, and we just found out it's out of order. We're at a loss because there's nowhere else to stay. I'm sharing this for anyone planning ahead who wants to know what to expect. For what places like this cost these days, I don't think it's too much to ask not to have to buy roach spray and Clorox, but I'll be doing both.
