Chalet Motel

We loved staying here and will definitely be back. The owner, Michelle, chatted with us and shared some history about this charming 1930s motor court. Our unit was retro and cute, with a small kitchen, living area, bedroom, and bathroom. It was extremely clean and had everything we needed. There were flowers outside and a little bistro set where we could sit in the evening.

I stayed in number 10 and could happily have spent days there. It had a good-sized kitchen with a full-size fridge, microwave, coffee maker, electric stove with oven, and regular sink. The place was super clean and had everything I needed, including a continental breakfast in the room. There’s parking, it’s an easy walk to downtown Custer, and pets stay free. Skip the chain hotel and book here!

Our room was tiny but lovely, fully stocked, and super clean, and the internet worked well. The host was kind and happy to help with any questions, and we had no problems at all. We were in town for one night on a trip to Badlands National Park, and I wish we’d had longer at the motel. Custer itself was beautiful too, a small mountain town surrounded by nature. If I’m back in the area, I’d definitely stay here again.

The reception woman kindly checked in with me before I arrived to make sure I had all the information I needed. Breakfast was left in the room, which was nice, and the chalets were spacious and clean, with AC that worked just fine. They’re vintage in a cute way. I ended up staying two nights in different chalets after changing my plans and booking the second night at the last minute. It’s a handy base for Custer State Park, Deadwood, or Mt Rushmore. There’s also a coffee and breakfast kiosk right next door, where I walked over one morning for an excellent iced coffee.
