Dahlonega Mountain Inn

We liked it so much that we decided to stay two nights! Rosemarie in the office gave the place a down-home feel, and the facility was well maintained. It felt secluded while still being really convenient. Beautiful views, good prices, and Southern hospitality. What’s not to like?

The staff were nice, and it’s the first place I’ve stayed in several years where they replaced the towels every day. The room was clean, but badly needed repairs and replacements. There were cracked lampshades and cigarette burns around the tub and vanity. The vanity looked so abused, I wondered if someone had used it as a workbench. I guess that’s normal when you travel with a dog, even a 3.5 pound Yorkie. It seemed to be near a hospital because there were lots of ambulance sirens, but the room itself was fairly quiet. The bed was perfect if you like an extremely firm mattress, really horribly firm. That bed is the only reason I wouldn’t stay there again.

There was a blob of wet toilet paper beneath the roll in the bathroom, and the tub felt squishy, like you could fall through the floor. The ceiling above it had water damage. The towels and washcloths were stained and worn, and the bed pillows were the hardest we’ve ever encountered and smelled like cigarettes. The mattress was completely worn out, hard and deeply indented. There was so little space between the bed and dresser that two people couldn’t pass through at once. The nice woman at the front desk couldn’t make up for such an uncomfortable room.

For a one-night stay at that price, it was decent overall. The room was older but clean and neat, and the service was fine since we only needed check-in and checkout. There were lots of cameras, so we felt relatively safe even though our room was at the back of the place. The real downside was the bed. It was so hard and lumpy that I honestly think it was a box spring, not a mattress.
