Sheridan Guesthouse

The property was peaceful, attractive, and well maintained, and our room was clean with all the essentials stocked. The staff were kind and respectful. Our receptionist even called to say the room was ready. The only drawback was the TV talking whenever you pressed a button, which got annoying. My sister and I were out most of the time, though, so it wasn’t a big deal. We only stayed one night and wished we’d booked longer. Next time we’re in Ft. Lauderdale, I think we’ll stay here again. The price was unbeatable, the room was very clean, and the grounds were well maintained. It’s about 1.5 miles from the beach, with plenty of places to eat nearby and easy access to local transportation. Those were the few positives of my four-night stay at The Sheridan Hostel, across the street from Sheridan Guesthouse and owned and operated by the same company. This place needs more common sense in screening guests. It felt like a drug users and dealers paradise, and that’s not an overstatement. Many guests were getting high around the clock, then nodding off on lounge chairs in the garden and fountain area. People came in and out of the room I shared all night. I wouldn’t have minded if they were staying in the room, but they were there to wake up the "Dealer of the Hostel". The electronic combination gate is no help when people who don’t stay at the hostel have the code. During my four-night visit, the local sheriff's dept. came by three times. You should have seen everyone run inside. On my second night, one guest lost his temper and punched a glass tabletop, shattering it. Nobody asked him to leave, which made me question the safety here. The listed price also doesn’t tell the whole story: a one-time lock fee and daily parking fee get added at check-in. If you bring an issue to the staff, expect a condescending response.

We were grateful our car windows weren’t broken, and left for the airport in the morning as planned, moving quickly, looking over our shoulders, and locking everything. We weren’t kicked out of this flop house, despite Mike Zs comments below. The night we stayed, outdoor furniture was full of doped-out ex-cons, with men in varying states of dress sleeping on it. The padded reviews stand out, too. This is a halfway house for prisoners, and I don’t think it’s safe for women or families. Don’t stay here. They also ripped us off on the price. The management’s response below says a lot about what they’re like.

The beds were really comfortable, and you can tell the mattresses are brand new. My stay at Sheridan was great. The place was very clean and well maintained. I highly recommend it to other guests.
