For an aging property, the stay was decent, though it didn't feel worth the price. The main resort and leisure center have clearly gotten older, and the management seemed to nickel and dime us. We booked an “upgraded” suite and paid the premium upfront, $650 for 3 nights with a Memorial Day promotion. When we arrived, the room had just one window, with everything visible from the street. They then offered a different upgrade for another $100. The website said breakfast was included, but we were charged for one morning. The front desk said the website must have been wrong and the Memorial Day deal covered 3 nights but only 2 breakfasts. The hotel has some quality, but the bait and switch happened twice during our stay.

Our car broke down, so we needed somewhere near civilization, in Beckley, while we were in the area of New River Gorge National Park. The situation wasn't fun, but staying at the Resort At Glade Springs turned it into a bit of a lemonade-from-lemons moment. The kids enjoyed the indoor and outdoor pools, bowling, and breakfast. We parents liked the clean rooms, the private resort community, and being surrounded by the nature that brought us down there. We had to return the next weekend to pick up the car, and choosing to stay here again was easy. Thank you!

The rooms were nice enough, though nothing special. I booked the basic $150 room and wasn't expecting anything fancy, so I was satisfied with the stay. It's the cobb course that keeps bringing me back. I've stayed at The glades Springs resort and played it 3 times now, and the course started my love of golf. Before that I played about once every 5 years. Since then, I've been golfing 5 days a week for the last nine months. The greens are huge, the fairways are in great shape, and the rough is challenging. The prices are amazing when you think about it. Where else can you get a course in that good shape for 50 bucks? I blame the cup course at Slade Springs for getting me hooked. I'll play it a few times a year until I put the clubs down. If you want a great golf experience and a very reasonable room rate, I highly recommend it.

The free hot buffet at the Rotunda was excellent each morning, and the staff we met were all friendly and helpful. Our room was dated and average, but comfortable, with a king bed. The jacuzzi tub was perfect for soaking after skiing, and our balcony in the main resort looked out over the Christmas lights. We had a low-key, activity-filled four-night Christmas getaway, just what we wanted. We packed a lot in. The free shuttle to Winterplace, 15-20 mins away, made skiing on Christmas Day and the day after easy. At Bunkers on Christmas Eve we had prime rib, margarita pizza, and played pool. Christmas night at Glade’s Grill was a highlight, with a crab and shrimp cocktail appetizer that had enough crab for three or four people, a great wedge salad, filet mignon, and the best loaded baked potato we've ever had, with thick bacon. The leisure center had free disc golf, pickleball, a gym, and basketball. Bowling was $12 per person, and we used $10 in arcade credit. We didn't swim, though it was free, or play golf, which cost extra. There was no shortage of things to do. A few menu items were unavailable, including cheese fondue, Amstel Light, and guacamole. One night at Bunkers, our food took over an hour, though the quesadilla was amazing. Outside the gated resort, the town is pretty run down, but nearby spots worth visiting include The Grandview of the New River, 10-15 mins away, and Tamarack Marketplace in Beckley, WV, 30 mins away. Coal mining tours run seasonally, from April-November. We came away with great memories.

The front desk staff were kind, courteous, and able to make reasonable arrangements at the last minute. The property has scenic surroundings and potential, but the upkeep and attention to detail were lacking. Our room felt neglected and dated, with scuffed furniture, stained carpet, worn furnishings, and tired decor. The general wear took away from what could have been a comfortable stay. Better maintenance and updated interiors would make a big difference. Despite the helpful staff, the experience fell short of the quality and value we expected.
