Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Danville by IHG

Tajhan made a long travel day end on a good note. I arrived after midnight and he got me checked in quickly, with a warm welcome and a friendly, personable manner. Later I came back to the lobby for toothpaste. He was busy cleaning and looking after the coffee area, but still helped me right away. That kind of service and willingness to go out of his way stood out. Tajhan, the night manager at the front desk, deserves recognition for what he brings to the hotel. He made my stay a positive one, and I'd recommend the place because of service like his.

The housekeeping team did what they could with the room they had to work with, and they deserve credit for the effort. My room itself was in poor shape, though. The bathrooms were nasty, with broken tile and big dark stains running up the wall. The rooms are dated, which wouldn't bother me much if they were maintained better. Check-in and checkout service felt lackluster. All the water fountains were out when I went looking to refill my bottle. The front desk clerk did give me a bottle, which was nice, but made me feel like I was a huge inconvenience. I probably won't stay here again.

The beds felt like plywood, so I didn't get much sleep, and the thermostat only let me set it to 65. I doubt the room ever really got that cold. In the bathroom, there was water damage on the ceiling and around the tub. I can only hope it was actually water damage and not mold. This is one of the worst, most dated Hamptons I've stayed in. It badly needs renovations. I think work was beginning around the time of our visit, but they seemed to start with the pool instead of the rooms that need attention most. I know Hamptons are usually more affordable, and I have nothing against the brand, but this one felt overpriced for its location and condition. It needs a complete renovation before more guests stay there.

I often stay at Hilton hotels and prefer the chain, but this was a two-star stay for me. I've marked this place as somewhere never to stop again while traveling. It's close to the interstate, which makes that unfortunate. I'd suggest finding another location if you want your money's worth. I wish I'd read the other reviews before stopping. The heater was very loud, the remote wouldn't work properly even after I put in my own batteries, and I had to unplug the TV to turn it off. The toilet was stained and seemed to have some cleaner left in it. My key didn't work either, and there was no member greeting on the TV, though that wasn't a big deal. The nightstand drawer was wedged shut with a coffee cup sleeve. The price listed on Google Maps also wasn't the actual price. Substandard all around.
