The hotel was handy for getting to UMASS, but the rooms and service were in very poor shape. The sheets were stained, the outlets didn’t work, and the room smelled strongly of mildew and age. When I asked for extra bedding, the front desk said there wasn’t a single extra sheet in the whole hotel, which seemed very odd.

The receptionist was very nice and the rooms were alright. But when we went down for breakfast at 8:45 a.m., there was no food. The woman working there asked if we wanted French toast, and that was all, so we ended up with no breakfast.

We had a large, clean room and plenty of parking during our 3-night stay. About 10 minutes after we checked in, the front desk called to make sure the room was okay. The staff were friendly, and breakfast had lots of hot and cold choices. The attendant kept the area clean and stocked, and even asked a guest who arrived near the end of serving hours what hot food she wanted. At other places I’ve stayed, they’d probably just have to make do with whatever was left. I’d definitely come back.

My two-week stay was mostly pleasant, but two problems left me seriously concerned about guest treatment and security. I was shocked to learn that room keycards aren’t automatically reset between guests. If someone keeps a card after checking out, they can still get into the room unless staff manually intervene. I wouldn’t feel comfortable leaving my belongings there. One night a neighboring guest was smoking heavily, and the smell made it hard to breathe. Staff cheerfully moved me, but the new room’s smoke detector had a low battery and beeped loudly every few minutes. It was around 11 PM, long past when I’d gone to bed, so I had to switch rooms again. The staff were courteous, but the whole thing was exhausting. They first offered 15% off, then raised it to 25% after I spoke to a regional manager. When a restful, safe night has gone so wrong, a small discount doesn’t feel like a meaningful apology. After these incidents, I’d think twice about booking here again.
