The location is great, with plenty nearby, and the gym looked nice. The pool looked good too, though I didn’t use it. Staff were friendly, but I had to ask for water at check-in, unusual for me as a Hilton Gold member since I’m used to receiving a cold bottle. That’s a petty complaint, I know. Breakfast was another surprise: $18 per person, while I’m used to it being free at DoubleTrees. Some rooms seem more updated than others, which doesn’t make much sense. In mine, the mirror blocked the faucet handles, so I could only get lukewarm water. I had to change rooms because the first stayed at 79 degrees after six hours with the thermostat set to 66. The second was better but remained at 72, and I could smell the heater even with it set to 66. I woke up sweating several times.

Michael at check-in was so nice and helpful, and the bed was comfortable. We were in town for a concert at the Adler theater, just a five-minute walk away, and felt safe among the crowd heading out afterward. The room was clean and spacious, though the bathroom looked worn and needs work. The shower pressure was very low and there was lots of street noise. For the price I expected more, especially after seeing the lobby, which made the room look as if it would be newer and more up to date. We skipped breakfast at $18 per person.

Our weekend started badly after a travel booking service required for our soccer tournament put us in an awful hotel. I booked a room at Hilton DoubleTree on my phone and felt relieved, then was elated to walk into a place that was clean, bright, and welcoming, with a great view of the Mississippi River. The people were wonderful, and the front desk suggested a great lunch spot. It was a packed weekend with sports teams and dance groups, but the small staff handled everything. Extra towels when we asked, extra time before checkout when we needed it. We felt pampered, and I can’t thank them enough. The trip that started off wrong ended up being great.

The breakfast was pretty good, and the sausages and bacon were among the best I’ve had at a Hilton. The breakfast staff were really nice too. Our king room was clean and ready when we arrived for our first visit to Davenport. We went to the symphony two blocks away, then came back and slept well. Parts of the hotel are a bit dated, but for the price it was more than I expected.

The shower floor was disgusting, with hair and fuzz on it. This was another stay where I got a room without working AC. I set it to 65F, but it stayed at 75F. Davenport had just had big storms, so maybe that was the reason. The free “upgrade” had a great daytime view of the river, but it didn’t block the train noise. Its horn woke me around 2AM, 3AM, and 4AM, and another horn went off every hour in the morning like a 100-ton alarm clock.
